Love without reward is an animation produced with 3D modeling software whose protagonist is an old woman who reflects on human nature and the prevailing deterioration of moral values. With an ambiguous treatment that mixes irony and commitment in tone, the artist puts an emotional speech on the woman’s lips that incites the viewer to redirect his life towards the purity of the heart and the noble feelings of love for his neighbor, moving away from selfishness, of waste and ethical precariousness.
For this piece, Arregui counted on the voice of Elsa Fábregas, dubbing actresses of classic golden Hollywood, to interpret the text she wrote, full of levels of meaning.
The author designs a character of an age far removed from the prototypes of the action heroine that is usually represented with these tools who, descending an infinite staircase and subjected to the forces of an emphatic gale, addresses her friends and the viewer, to propose redirect life towards goodness, honesty, serenity, and righteousness of spirit.
As in other of his pieces, on the one hand we would find a literal reading that warns us of the decrepitude of positive values today, given as we are to an exacerbated capitalism that is praised and justified by the media; and on the other hand, the melodramatic treatment of the old woman’s oratory reminds us of the ease of manufacturing, with the right tools, these proclamations often bathed in hypocrisy.
Another interesting aspect is to consider the character in his own nature, the digital one, from which he is presented to us immersed in a certain existential void, in a kind of existentialism: “even though he is an imitation, which some sentimental ridiculous has brought to this world”… “Here I stay, suspended in time”
